Encroachment & Garbage Choke Kalkaji: Deputy Mayor Dr. Monica Pant Orders Crackdown, Reviews Civic Failures

Date:

New Delhi: Civic issues in South Delhi’s Kalkaji area came under scrutiny after Deputy Mayor Dr. Monica Pant conducted an on-ground inspection, exposing illegal encroachments, poor sanitation, and lapses in civic management.

During the inspection, unauthorised encroachments were removed on the spot from Aggarwal Dharamshala Road, with officials directed to intensify enforcement and ensure sustained action. The Deputy Mayor also expressed strong dissatisfaction over street vendors occupying footpaths and garbage accumulation along Maa Anandmayee Marg, calling it a serious inconvenience for pedestrians and residents.

“Encroachment and illegal construction will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Accountability will be fixed for negligence,” Dr. Pant said, signalling a strict stance against civic violations.

Residents flagged multiple concerns, including unclean public spaces, poor maintenance, and illegal dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in and around parks. Taking note, the Deputy Mayor instructed officials to ensure regular disposal of waste and take strict action against violators.

The inspection highlighted how unchecked encroachments and waste mismanagement are affecting public hygiene and accessibility, raising concerns over enforcement gaps in one of Delhi’s key residential zones.

Dr. Pant reiterated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is committed to improving civic infrastructure and services. She also urged citizens to actively cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and protecting public spaces.
