Civic Neglect Under Spotlight: Delhi Mayor Sets 7-Day Deadline to Fix Sanitation Crisis in Puth Khurd

Date:

New Delhi, May 4: Mounting sanitation concerns and infrastructure gaps in outer Delhi came into sharp focus after Mayor Parvesh Wahi conducted an on-ground inspection of Ward No. 29, Puth Khurd, responding to persistent complaints from residents.

During the visit, villagers flagged chronic garbage accumulation, clogged drains, and incomplete civic works, highlighting the growing public health risk in the area. Taking note, the Mayor directed officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Public Works Department (PWD) to work in coordination and resolve the issues on priority.

Adopting a strict accountability stance, Wahi issued a seven-day deadline for resolving key civic problems, warning that non-compliance could lead to contractors being blacklisted. “If the situation does not improve, I will personally return next week for a review,” he said, underlining the urgency of the matter.

The Mayor also inspected a nigam school in Bawana, instructing authorities to repair the damaged boundary wall, citing safety concerns for students. Officials assured that pending works would be completed within a week.

A major concern raised during the inspection was the unsafe disposal of cattle waste into drains, which has been contributing to frequent blockages and unhygienic conditions. Addressing residents, Wahi urged them to avoid such practices and instead utilise existing biogas plants, where dung can be converted into energy and manure.

Highlighting a broader governance push, the Mayor acknowledged funding support under rural development initiatives and stressed that improving sanitation and infrastructure in Delhi’s villages remains a key priority.

The visit, attended by local representatives and senior officials, reflects increasing pressure on civic agencies to deliver visible improvements in basic services, especially in rapidly expanding rural pockets of the capital.
