Delhi Metro Phase V(B) Gets Green Signal: 97 km Expansion, 7 New Routes by 2029

New Delhi: The Delhi government has given a major push to urban mobility with the approval of Delhi Metro Phase V(B), marking a significant expansion of the capital’s metro network.

As per the update shared by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO Delhi), the ambitious project aims to make metro connectivity faster, wider, and more accessible across the city.

Under the plan, over 97 kilometers of new metro lines will be constructed, along with the development of 65 new stations, strengthening last-mile connectivity and easing daily commute for lakhs of passengers.

The project, estimated at a massive ₹48,204 crore, will see metro services extended across 7 new routes, focusing particularly on connecting outer and underserved areas of Delhi such as Najafgarh, Narela, Mithapur, and Khera.

Officials have set an ambitious target to complete the project by 2029, with several corridors to be taken up on priority under fast-track mode. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been submitted to the Central Government, and final cabinet and financial approvals are awaited.

The expansion is expected to transform Delhi’s public transport ecosystem, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable urban development by improving connectivity between city centres and peripheral regions.
