New Delhi, Aug. 2: Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Sunday inaugurated an Aerobin at Shree Apartment Housing Society in Rohini Sector 15, saying the technology would strengthen waste segregation and composting at the source while reducing the burden on landfill sites.
The Mayor said the Aerobin uses bio-culture technology to convert up to 10 kg of wet waste into compost in a single cycle and can produce compost within 40 days without emitting foul odour.
He urged housing societies across the city to install Aerobins within their premises to promote scientific waste management and improve segregation and disposal of waste at the source.
Wahi said such community-level initiatives could significantly reduce the quantity of waste reaching landfill sites. He added that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had inducted several modern sanitation machines into its fleet over the past few months to further improve cleanliness across the capital.
The Mayor said the MCD was working under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Swachh Bharat’. He appealed to Delhi residents to cooperate with the civic body in maintaining cleanliness in their localities and actively participate in making the national capital clean and green.
During the programme, the Mayor also inaugurated a health check-up camp. Stressing the importance of preventive healthcare, he said maintaining good health is essential in today’s fast-paced lifestyle and noted that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
