New Delhi, July 7: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he would write to all automobile companies that participated in the government’s press conference on E20 ethanol-blended fuel, asking them to give a written assurance to their customers regarding the use of E20 fuel in vehicles.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said he would ask every automobile manufacturer to provide a written commitment that if a customer uses E20 fuel and the vehicle’s mileage drops by more than 10 per cent, the company should compensate the customer for the loss. He further said the companies should also give a written assurance that if any part of a vehicle gets damaged due to the use of E20 fuel, the damaged part should be replaced free of cost by the manufacturer.
Kejriwal also announced that he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week seeking clarity on who would be responsible if consumers face problems after using E20 fuel.
“I will ask the Prime Minister whether, if any person’s vehicle develops any problem after using E20 fuel, will the Government compensate the owner or will the automobile company bear the compensation?” he said.
Kejriwal said consumers should not be left uncertain about the consequences of using E20 fuel and that automobile manufacturers should stand by their products through a written assurance. He maintained that if consumers suffer reduced mileage or vehicle damage due to the use of E20 fuel, there should be a clear mechanism for compensation.
At the time of publication, there was no immediate response from the Central Government or the automobile manufacturers regarding Kejriwal’s remarks. The story will be updated once their response is received.
