Delhi Police Solves Govindpuri Double Murder Case Within 72 Hours After Encounter With Armed Cousin

New Delhi, May 23: Delhi Police’s South-East District unit has solved the sensational Govindpuri blind double murder case within 72 hours after apprehending the accused following an armed encounter in Tughlakabad Extension.

The accused, identified as 28-year-old Saurabh Sahu, was allegedly involved in the brutal murder of a woman and her 13-year-old son inside their residence in Govindpuri during the intervening night of May 20 and 21.

Police said the accused is the real cousin of the deceased woman.

Accused Arrested After Exchange of Fire

According to Delhi Police, the accused was traced through:

  • technical surveillance
  • CCTV footage analysis
  • Call Detail Record (CDR) scrutiny
  • local intelligence inputs

Acting on a secret tip-off about the accused’s movement near Ghati Wala Park in Tughlakabad Extension, police teams laid a trap during the intervening night of May 22 and 23.

When police attempted to apprehend him, the accused allegedly opened indiscriminate fire using an illegal country-made pistol.

During the encounter:

  • the accused fired four rounds at the police team
  • one bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of SI Yashpal, narrowly saving his life

Police retaliated in self-defence and overpowered the accused after firing three rounds.

The injured accused was later shifted to hospital under police custody.

Double Murder Solved Within 72 Hours

The brutal murder case came to light after a woman and her teenage son were found murdered inside their house in Govindpuri.

Senior officers immediately supervised the investigation and multiple teams were formed to crack the case.

Police teams worked on:

  • CCTV footage examination
  • electronic tracking and CDR analysis
  • interrogation of suspects and witnesses
  • field intelligence collection

The first breakthrough reportedly came through local staff of PS Govindpuri and was later developed jointly by Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) and AATS teams.

Motive Linked to Personal Resentment

During interrogation, Saurabh Sahu allegedly confessed to committing the murders due to personal resentment and jealousy.

Police said the deceased woman had been repeatedly counselling him against:

  • drug addiction
  • criminal activities

which allegedly angered the accused.

Weapons and Evidence Recovered

Police recovered:

  • one illegal country-made pistol
  • fired and live cartridges
  • blood-stained clothes
  • other incriminating evidence linked to the crime

Accused Has Criminal Background

Police said Saurabh Sahu, a resident of Sangam Vihar, has a criminal history and was previously involved in:

  • theft cases
  • snatching incidents
  • robbery and Arms Act offences

Further investigation in the case is underway.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East District) Hemant Tiwari confirmed the development in an official press release.
