New Delhi: Delhi Police has solved the sensational murder of businessman Vaibhav Gandhi in Bawana, arresting five accused persons, including the alleged mastermind, with one suspect apprehended after an exchange of fire. The case was registered as FIR No. 72/2026 under Sections 103(1), 309(6), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at PS Bawana.
The incident took place on February 9, 2026, around 11:45 AM, when unidentified assailants opened fire outside Factory Nos. J-133 and J-21 in Sector-4, DSIIDC, Bawana, fatally injuring Vaibhav Gandhi. He was rushed to MV Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A day after the killing, a social media post surfaced allegedly claiming responsibility for the murder in the name of Randeep Malik and Anil Pandit, described as US-based gangsters, stating the businessman was targeted for interfering in their affairs.
Taking the gravity of the offence into account, multiple teams were formed under the supervision of senior officers of Outer North District. Investigators worked relentlessly using manual intelligence, technical surveillance, and analysis of nearly 1,000 CCTV cameras across Delhi-NCR. Social media activity was also scanned as part of the probe.
During sustained interrogation, police uncovered that Ravinder alias Ravi, who had earlier visited the victim’s office in connection with financial dealings, had passed on information about cash availability to Sanjay alias Tau, a hardened criminal with over 50 previous cases registered in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Sanjay allegedly conspired to rob the businessman and roped in associates including Arun and others. The group conducted reconnaissance of the office area multiple times in January and February before executing the plan.
On the day of the incident, the accused reached the spot in advance and, upon the businessman’s arrival, opened fire at close range before fleeing with three bags reportedly containing diaries, a laptop and a mobile phone. Acting on CCTV leads and technical inputs, police apprehended Sanjay alias Tau and Ravinder from Sultanpuri. Subsequent disclosures led to the arrest of Sandeep Pujari and Harish Kumar alias Sonu.
In a separate operation on February 14 around 11:30 PM, police laid a trap following secret information about accused Arun. He allegedly fired two rounds at the police team in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting retaliatory fire in self-defence. He was overpowered after sustaining injuries. A .32 bore pistol, two empty cartridges and a stolen motorcycle without a number plate were recovered from his possession.
DCP Outer North District Hareshwar Swami, IPS, stated that the swift arrests were the result of coordinated field intelligence, technical surveillance and meticulous investigation. He added that further investigation is underway to trace remaining suspects and examine all aspects of the conspiracy.
