Delhi Police Bust LPG Black Marketing Racket in Bawana, 75 Cylinders Seized

Date:

New Delhi: In a major crackdown, Delhi Police’s Bawana Police Station under Outer North District has busted an illegal LPG cylinder hoarding and black marketing racket, arresting one accused and seizing a total of 75 LPG cylinders.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh and supervision of DCP Hareshwar Swami. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal storage and transportation of LPG cylinders, a dedicated police team laid a trap near District Park, Sector-2, DSIIDC, Bawana.

At around 4:00 PM on April 2, police intercepted a TATA Ace vehicle and recovered 27 LPG cylinders, including both domestic and commercial types. Several cylinders were found filled. The driver, identified as Anil (50), a resident of Auchandi village, failed to produce any valid documents or authorization for transporting the cylinders.

Following sustained interrogation, the accused revealed additional illegal storage locations. Subsequent raids led to the recovery of 48 more cylinders from nearby rooms and an iron storage unit, all kept without safety measures or legal permissions.

In total, 75 LPG cylinders of various brands—including HP Gas, Bharat Gas, Indane, and Go Gas—were seized. The illegal storage and handling of such combustible material posed a serious threat to public safety.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The accused has been arrested, and the vehicle used in transportation has also been seized.

Police are now investigating the supply chain, potential buyers, and possible involvement of gas agency staff or other associates in the black marketing network.

Officials stated that the timely कार्रवाई helped avert a major safety hazard and exposed a well-organised illegal LPG distribution racket operating in the industrial area of Bawana.
