New Delhi: In a strong push to reclaim public spaces from garbage, debris and dust pollution, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out extensive cleanliness and sanitation drives across the Karol Bagh and Central Zones, removing over 68 metric tonnes of waste in a single coordinated operation.
In the Karol Bagh Zone, an intensive sanitation drive was conducted along Budh Mandir Road No. 3 and Hardiyan Singh Road (Ward No. 84), covering nearly 2 square kilometres. The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Public Works Department (PWD).
Deputy Commissioner Mamta Yadav said that the focus was not just on visible garbage but also on deep cleaning and dust mitigation.
“To ensure effective removal of malba and garbage, heavy machinery and manpower were deployed. As a result, around 5 metric tonnes of garbage were cleared from the area,” she said.
The drive saw the deployment of 03 trucks, 15 tippers, 01 JCB, 01 loader, Tata Ace vehicles, e-rickshaws, along with anti-smog guns, water sprinklers and jetting machines to curb dust pollution.
Nearly 80 Safai Karamcharis and 10 beldars worked on the ground to ensure thorough cleaning.

Central Zone: Tackling Garbage Hotspots Head-On
A parallel large-scale cleanliness drive was undertaken in the Central Zone at Jasola Puliya, covering Jasola Vihar Main Road from JD Birla Marg to Pocket-11 across an area of about 21,600 square metres.
With participation from PWD and DDA, a total of 112 personnel were deployed. Over 30 machines, including JCBs, tippers, trucks, water tankers, jetting machines and anti-smog units, were pressed into service.
The operation focused on 8 Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and resulted in the removal of 55 MT of construction and demolition waste and 8.5 MT of garbage, taking the total waste cleared to 63.5 MT in the Central Zone alone.
A Push for Cleaner, Breathable Delhi
Officials said such drives will continue across zones to improve public hygiene, reduce dust pollution, and prevent the re-emergence of garbage hotspots. The coordinated effort reflects MCD’s renewed focus on on-ground execution, combining manpower, machinery and inter-departmental cooperation to deliver visible results for residents.
