New Delhi: In a move stirring debate ahead of the festive season, Delhi BJP MLAs Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Ajay Mahawar have demanded a strict ban on meat sales during Navratri 2025.
Marwah has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and the Mayor, urging closure of all meat shops across the capital for the nine sacred days of Navratri. He argued that the measure is essential to maintain the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma’s holy period.
Echoing the demand, MLA Ajay Mahawar called for a prohibition on not only the sale but also the open slaughtering and cooking of meat in public places during Navratri. “Navratri is a sacred time for millions of Hindus. It is important that the government enforces restrictions to respect religious sentiments,” Mahawar stated.
The demand has sparked discussions on the intersection of faith, governance, and personal choice in Delhi, especially as the festive season approaches.
