Religious Idols and Temple Articles Recovered
During the operation, police recovered several stolen articles, including:
- A ceremonial Gada (mace)
- Laddu Gopal idol
- Radha-Krishna idol
- Four brass lamps (Deepaks)
Police said the accused had allegedly stolen the items from the Hanuman Temple located in Conductor Colony, Burari, and was travelling on a stolen motorcycle to Jahangirpuri, where he intended to sell the stolen property.
CCTV Footage and Local Intelligence Help Crack Case
Investigators said a combination of CCTV footage analysis and local intelligence gathering played a crucial role in solving the case.
Under the leadership of SHO Girish Chander, police teams reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding areas and developed intelligence inputs that helped identify and track the accused within two days of the theft.
The accused was subsequently intercepted and arrested before he could dispose of the stolen articles.
History of Criminal Activity
During preliminary investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of the same temple nearly five months ago.
Police records further revealed that Rohit had previously been arrested and sent to jail in 2024 in connection with criminal activities.
Investigation Continues
Delhi Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was involved in other theft cases in the area and to ascertain the source of the stolen motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
Officials described the recovery as a significant success, particularly because the theft involved religious idols and articles associated with public faith and worship.
The recovered idols and temple property are expected to be returned following completion of the necessary legal procedures.
