New Delhi: In a significant milestone for the Delhi Police, a new cohort of 2,780 constables, including 1,240 women, graduated from the Delhi Police Academy on Tuesday, as announced by an official spokesperson.

This graduating class showcases a remarkable diversity in academic backgrounds. Among the recruits, there are 296 postgraduates, which include 71 MSc, eight MBA, and 24 MCom holders. Additionally, 24 individuals possess engineering degrees (BTech), three have law degrees (LLB), and 137 are qualified with Bachelor of Education (BEd) degrees. This rich academic tapestry is set to enhance the capabilities of the police force, according to a statement from the Delhi Police.

The constables underwent an intensive training program designed to equip them for the complex challenges of 21st-century policing. The curriculum encompassed a wide array of subjects, including contemporary criminal laws, constitutional studies, criminology, forensic science, and cybercrime awareness, as highlighted by a senior police officer.

Specialized training modules focused on countering cybercrime, disaster management, and economic offenses. Physical training was a crucial aspect of their preparation, emphasizing unarmed combat, self-defense, commando tactics, and urban intervention techniques.

Commando training included practical exercises in fieldcraft, ambush tactics, building clearance drills, and improvised explosive device (IED) awareness. A collaborative effort with the National Disaster Response Force provided recruits with hands-on experience in disaster relief and rescue operations through realistic mock drills.

To strengthen community policing and improve interpersonal communication, workshops were organized by domain experts and non-governmental organizations. These sessions focused on essential soft skills, stress and anger management, and wildlife conservation. Additionally, training on fraud detection and digital forensics equipped participants with the necessary tools to effectively combat cyber and financial crimes.

All recruits underwent comprehensive training in essential IT systems, including the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), and the Integrated Complaint Monitoring System (ICMS). Additionally, they are registered on the iGOT Karmayogi platform and have successfully completed the mandatory online modules required by the Delhi Police.

During the passing-out ceremony, Special Commissioner of Police (HR Division) Nuzhat Hassan congratulated the recruits and emphasized the significance of ethical policing, discipline, and community service. She encouraged the new constables to embrace modern technology in their policing duties to effectively serve Delhi’s diverse and dynamic population.

Constable Diksha Choudhary was honored with the trophy for the all-round best trainee, while Constable Bhavna Rana excelled in indoor training, Constable Dheeraj Yadav led in outdoor performance, and Constable Sohit Kumar distinguished himself as the best in commando training.

The best marching contingents were identified as number 7 (women) and number 22 (men), with their instructors, Head Constable Ravita and Assistant Sub-Inspector Surender, recognized for their outstanding efforts.

The welcome address was delivered by Asif Mohammad Ali, Joint Director of the Delhi Police Academy, who acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the training staff and encouraged the recruits to serve with integrity and courage.

The guest of honor, Kaveri Tondon, Director in Charge of Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat, praised the comprehensive training provided at the academy and highlighted the increasing importance of research and academic collaboration in modern policing. A total of 36 contingents participated in the parade.

The full strength of Batch Number 124 consists of 4,088 recruit constables. Of these, 2,780 participated in the ceremonial parade at Jharoda Kalan on Tuesday, while the remaining recruits completed their swearing-in ceremony at Wazirabad on May 19.
