Building Collapse Risk: Delhi Authorities Issue Evacuation Notices in Shahdara District

New Delhi: A four-storey building in Bihari Colony, situated in East Delhi’s Shahdara district, tilted dangerously on Thursday, prompting local authorities to issue evacuation notices for the affected structure and neighboring buildings as a precautionary measure, according to an official statement.

In response to the situation, a team from the Farsh Bazar police station has been deployed to monitor the area closely.

“We urge everyone to avoid the vicinity. Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are currently assessing the condition of the building and have posted evacuation notices,” stated a senior police officer.

Sandeep Kapoor, Chairman of the Standing Committee for the Shahdara South Zone of the MCD, emphasized, “The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is actively inspecting buildings, particularly those that are five to six stories tall or in a dilapidated and tilted condition, as they pose a risk of collapse. Last night, we evacuated a four-storey building in Bihari Colony that had begun to tilt as a precaution. Engineers are currently evaluating the structure, and it is likely to be sealed and demolished. Notices have also been issued for surrounding buildings to evacuate due to the potential danger posed by the leaning structure.”
