New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched a sharp counterattack against the opposition, accusing them of indulging in “lowest-level politics” and being uncomfortable with a woman running a high-pressure state like Delhi.
Speaking in the Delhi Assembly, Gupta said her remarks in a recent speech were deliberately twisted and amplified to distract from the government’s work. Referring to a viral clip where she mistakenly uttered a word, the Chief Minister said, “A word can slip out of anyone’s mouth—mine, yours, or anyone else’s. Turning that into reels and mockery shows how desperate the opposition has become.”
‘They Can’t Tolerate a Woman CM Working 24×7’
Gupta said she was pained by the pattern of attacks directed at her personally.
“They don’t like seeing a woman Chief Minister working round the clock, running a state like Delhi and delivering results every day. That discomfort shows in the kind of comments they make—insults, baseless allegations, and selective targeting of words,” she said.
Thanks Centre for Grants, Credits Agencies
The Chief Minister thanked the Central Government for the schemes and grants extended to Delhi, stating that thousands of crores of rupees received under various heads have enabled the government to work for the city’s development. She also acknowledged the role of multiple departments and agencies that have worked “shoulder to shoulder” with the Delhi government to improve governance.
‘Our Government Believes in Execution, Not Announcements’
Highlighting her administration’s approach, Gupta said her ministers, MLAs, and officials are visible on Delhi’s roads and among the people every day.
“This is a government of accountability. We believe in cooperation, not confrontation; in road completion, not ribbon cutting; in systems, not slogans,” she asserted.
She added that unlike previous regimes, the current Delhi government does not believe in protests and dharnas but in on-ground execution and transparent delivery.
11 Months vs 11 Years
In a direct political comparison, Gupta claimed her government’s 11-month performance has surpassed what earlier administrations achieved in 11 years.
“We have delivered more work with transparency in 11 months than what was done in 11 years. Our policy and intent are clear on every issue,” she said.
Strong Stand on Respect and Values
The Chief Minister also strongly objected to what she described as intentional disrespect towards cultural and spiritual figures, asserting that such acts were not accidental but deliberate.
“Insulting gurus or sacred values is unacceptable. We will not tolerate it—under any circumstances,” she said.
Assurance to Delhiites
Concluding her address, Rekha Gupta assured citizens that Delhi’s future will be better and more beautiful, reiterating that her government works for results, not headlines.
“The present Delhi government believes in execution over announcements. Very soon, the results will speak for themselves,” she said.
More political reactions are awaited.
