New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday said that a forensic examination has been ordered into the controversial video clips related to Leader of the Opposition Atishi, following objections raised over remarks allegedly made on the floor of the House.
Addressing the media, the Speaker said the issue had remained under discussion in the Assembly for the past three consecutive days, as members from both the ruling party and the opposition raised objections, terming the matter sensitive and serious. In an attempt to resolve the issue, representatives from both sides were invited to his chamber for deliberations.
According to Gupta, the opposition formally demanded a forensic investigation into the video clips, a proposal that was accepted by the ruling party as well. Subsequently, an official announcement was made from the floor of the House stating that a forensic science laboratory (FSL) examination of the clips would be conducted and that the report would be submitted to the Delhi Assembly within 15 days, or at the earliest possible time.
Given the gravity of the issue, the Speaker further stated that the matter has now been formally referred to the Privileges Committee, which will conduct an independent examination and place its findings before the House.
In a separate but related development, Gupta said that opposition MLA Jarnail Singh had used unparliamentary and objectionable language while commenting on decisions taken by the House. The Speaker noted that such language is entirely condemnable and against legislative decorum.
Following a complaint submitted by BJP leader Harish Khurana, the Speaker confirmed that this issue has also been referred to the appropriate committee for further examination and action.
The Speaker emphasized that parliamentary dignity and procedure must be upheld, and assured that all complaints would be examined strictly in accordance with Assembly rules and established norms.
Further action will depend on the findings of the forensic report and the Privileges Committee’s recommendations.
