Delhi MLAs Embark on Essential Orientation for Legislative Excellence

Date:

NEW DELHI: In a momentous occasion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led the inauguration of a crucial two-day Orientation Programme designed to equip the newly elected MLAs of the Delhi Legislative Assembly with the necessary skills for their legislative duties.

The event was graced by esteemed personalities such as Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi.

In his address to the assembly, Vijender Gupta emphasized the significance of following the House’s rule book, particularly the code of conduct. He stressed the importance of seeking the Speaker’s permission before speaking and invoked the words of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, reminding the assembly that while governments may change, the country and democracy must endure.

Representing the opposition, Atishi underscored the role of MLAs as representatives of the people rather than their political parties, emphasizing the weight of their responsibilities. Throughout the programme, the new MLAs will receive training on effective legislative engagement, the legislative and budgetary processes, and upholding executive accountability.

The Delhi Assembly’s budget session is slated for March 24 to 28, with the presentation scheduled for March 25. This orientation marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards legislative mastery for Delhi’s MLAs.
