New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday inaugurated the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on the Urban Extension Road-II, marking the launch of the first barrier-less toll plaza in the Delhi NCR region.
The inauguration was carried out in the presence of Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, BJP MP Harsh Malhotra, and senior officials.
According to Gadkari, the MLFF system introduces a fully contactless and seamless toll collection mechanism by integrating:
- Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology
- FASTag-based electronic toll collection
The system enables automatic toll deduction with minimal human intervention, allowing vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping at physical barriers.
Focus on Faster and Cleaner Travel
The Union Minister said the technology-driven tolling system is a major step towards modernising India’s national highway infrastructure.
He stated that the MLFF system is expected to:
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Improve travel efficiency
- Save fuel
- Lower vehicular emissions
- Minimise waiting time at toll plazas
Gadkari said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a digitally advanced, efficient and commuter-friendly highway network across the country.
Officials said the barrier-less tolling system will significantly improve traffic movement on the Urban Extension Road-II corridor, which serves as a key connectivity route in the Delhi NCR region.
