New Delhi: A tragic road accident in the early hours of Thursday claimed the life of a 19-year-old student and left another critically injured near the Modi Mill Flyover on Mathura Road, under the jurisdiction of Police Station New Friends Colony.
According to police, a PCR call (GD No. 05A) was received reporting an unconscious person at the accident site. Responding officers rushed to the spot and found heavy traffic congestion on the Sarita Vihar-bound carriageway, with multiple bystanders alerting authorities about a serious collision.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the accident occurred between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM on the intervening night of February 12 and 13. A scooty bearing registration number DL3SFG5650 was allegedly struck by a truck (RJ11GD2062) travelling toward Badarpur. The truck, reportedly loaded with grocery items, was en route from Badli to Nagpur. Police confirmed that no cleaner was present in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Manav (19), son of Rajender and a resident of Sarai Julena. He was declared “brought dead” upon arrival at the hospital. The injured rider, Md. Saad (21), a resident of Gaffar Manzil, Jamia Nagar, remains in critical condition. The scooty involved in the accident is registered in the name of his father.
The truck driver, Jahul (32), a resident of Nuh, Haryana, has been detained. He reportedly has been working for the vehicle owner for the past two years. Police stated that his driving licence and insurance documents are currently under verification.
The crime team inspected the scene and collected forensic evidence. Notably, no helmets were recovered from the accident site.
A case is being registered under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the collision.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during late-night hours, as investigations continue into the fatal Mathura Road crash.
