Jamia Nagar Police Bust Illegal LPG Cylinder Sale, One Arrested with 62 Cylinders

Date:

New Delhi: In a significant crackdown on the illegal trade of essential commodities, the Jamia Nagar Police have arrested an individual involved in the unlawful sale of LPG gas cylinders. The operation, which took place on March 16, 2026, resulted in the recovery of 62 LPG cylinders—48 filled and 14 used—along with a Tata Ace vehicle used for their transportation.

During routine patrol, police officers HC Vijay and HC Vikram noticed a suspicious individual near a Tata Ace vehicle loaded with LPG cylinders in Gali No.39, Yamuna Pusta, Jamia Nagar. Upon questioning, the suspect failed to provide any valid license or authority for selling LPG cylinders. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the 62 cylinders, which were being sold without any receipts or documentation.

The arrested individual, identified as Shahnawaz, 28, disclosed that he was part of a conspiracy with an associate named Mukesh, who supplied the cylinders from an Indane gas agency in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Shahnawaz admitted to having transported approximately 70 cylinders the day before the arrest and selling them at inflated prices in the Jamia Nagar area.

An FIR has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and efforts are underway to apprehend Mukesh, the co-accused. The police action has successfully thwarted the illegal distribution of LPG cylinders in the locality, ensuring the safety and compliance of essential commodity sales.
