New Delhi: In a major late-night operation, Delhi Police Special Cell carried out two separate encounters with criminals in East and North-West Delhi, leading to the arrest of three gang members linked to notorious crime syndicates.
The first encounter took place at Ghazipur Paper Market, where Special Cell teams intercepted two shooters associated with the Hashim Baba gang, which is active in North-East Delhi. Acting on specific intelligence about their movement, police laid a trap and asked the suspects to surrender. According to police sources, the duo instead opened fire and attempted to flee, forcing the police to retaliate. Both accused were injured in the exchange of fire and later arrested.
In a separate operation in Bawana, the Special Cell cornered Ankit Mann, a member of the Rajesh Bawania gang. Police said Ankit fired at the team during the operation, injuring a constable. The injury was reported to be minor. In retaliatory fire, Ankit sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was subsequently arrested and admitted to a hospital.
During the operations, police recovered three illegal pistols—two from the Hashim Baba gang shooters and one from Ankit Mann. Investigators also suspect that the motorcycle used by the Ghazipur shooters to reach the paper market was stolen.
Senior police officials said both encounters were the result of precise intelligence-based operations and reiterated that strict action will continue against organised criminal gangs operating in the capital.
