New Delhi: MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar has said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has achieved a major milestone in its ongoing cleanliness campaign, lifting 1,000 metric tonnes of additional municipal solid waste (MSW) every day over the past month. He emphasised that while the MCD is putting its full energy into sanitation, the ultimate success of the campaign depends on citizen participation in keeping Delhi clean.
Speaking at the event “Swachhata Hi Sewa: An Evening Dedicated to Cleanliness” organised by the MCD West Zone at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden under the “Dilli Ko Kude Se Azaadi” campaign, Ashwani Kumar stressed,
“Cleanliness is a continuous process. The government has decided to extend this drive beyond one month, and we will continue working with full dedication. I appeal to citizens to actively cooperate, because with public participation any campaign can be made a definite success.”

The event was attended by Industries and Environment Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Deputy Commissioner Col. Vinod Atri, and other dignitaries.
Leaders’ Statements
- Environment Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa highlighted Delhi’s scale and growth, saying, “Despite being home to nearly 30 million people within 50 sq. km, Delhi continues to progress due to the hard work of its citizens.” Praising sanitation workers, he added, “They keep the city clean even under difficult circumstances and are truly worthy of reverence.”
- Referring to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s vision, Sirsa declared, “We will ensure permanent freedom from garbage. Garbage mountains will disappear like dinosaurs, and future generations will never see them.”
- Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav underlined the role of citizens, remarking, “Making Delhi clean is not just MCD’s responsibility but everyone’s duty. The resolve to make Delhi garbage-free will succeed only when both citizens and MCD work together.”
Yadav also appealed to residents to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and to plant trees in their mothers’ names to create a greener Delhi.
Campaign Progress
The “Dilli Ko Kude Se Azaadi” campaign has already led to special drives across slums, JJ clusters, railway tracks, and office premises, extending beyond routine coverage. The focus is on achieving sustainable cleanliness in Delhi, reducing garbage dumps, improving sanitation infrastructure, and promoting community responsibility.
