New Delhi: In a major step toward its clean Delhi mission, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has cleared a massive silt dump spanning 7.62 acres in Singhola–Khampur village, removing 7.59 lakh metric tonnes of silt within a record six months.
This site, once used by the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) for dumping silt from Shahdara North and Shahdara South zones, had long stood as an eyesore. Following the unification of Delhi’s civic bodies, MCD initiated a systematic cleanup using bio-remediation and bio-mining techniques, with a tender awarded in November 2024.
The entire stockpile was successfully removed by 30 May 2025, and from 1 July 2025, the cleared site began receiving freshly dumped silt from eight zones—Shahdara North, Shahdara South, Civil Lines, City SP, Rohini, Narela, Keshavpuram, and Karol Bagh. All incoming waste will now be scientifically treated through eco-friendly processes.

Applauding the corporation’s efforts, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said, “This remarkable feat shows our commitment to eliminating garbage mountains across Delhi. The BJP-led MCD is working with full dedication to transform Delhi into a clean, green, and livable capital.”
He further emphasized, “Since the BJP took charge of the MCD, Delhi’s sanitation drive has accelerated. We are working on a war footing to clear all three major landfill sites in a time-bound manner. No effort will be spared in building a capital city that reflects our collective aspirations.”
The MCD’s success at Singhola adds to the civic body’s broader strategy of modernizing waste management, restoring land for future use, and setting a benchmark for sustainable urban governance.
