New Delhi, June 30: In a major boost to Delhi’s sanitation infrastructure, Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra on Tuesday flagged off 76 additional sanitation vehicles and equipment for the Shahdara North and Shahdara South Zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), aimed at strengthening waste collection and cleanliness services across the two zones.
The flag-off ceremony was held at Mahavir Swami Park, Shastri Park, in the presence of Mayor Pravesh Wahi, Deputy Mayor Dr. Monika Pant, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Councillor Pankaj Luthra, Shahdara South Zone Deputy Chairman Mukesh Bansal, Shahdara North Deputy Commissioner Mamta Yadav, Shahdara South Deputy Commissioner Vairokpam Punshiba Singh, along with senior civic officials and public representatives.
76 Modern Sanitation Resources Inducted
A total of 76 modern sanitation vehicles and equipment have been added to the MCD fleet, including:
- 52 vehicles for Shahdara North Zone
- 24 vehicles for Shahdara South Zone
The newly inducted fleet includes:
- 24 Tippers
- 10 Hook Loaders
- 28 Battery-Operated Rickshaws
- Mini Refuse Collectors (Mini RCs)
- Mini Dumpers
Officials said these vehicles will significantly improve waste collection and sanitation operations, particularly in narrow lanes, congested neighbourhoods and densely populated localities where conventional garbage vehicles face operational challenges.
Harsh Malhotra: Resources Being Continuously Strengthened
Addressing the gathering, Harsh Malhotra said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has always been synonymous with cleanliness and civic services.
He praised sanitation workers for their tireless contribution towards keeping the national capital clean and said additional financial support and modern equipment provided by the Delhi Government would further strengthen sanitation services.
He emphasised that cleanliness remains a top priority across Delhi and urged sanitation workers to continue their dedicated efforts to transform Delhi into the country’s cleanest capital city.
Mayor Appeals for Public Participation
Mayor Pravesh Wahi said maintaining a clean Delhi is not solely the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation but also a collective responsibility of every citizen.
He said the induction of modern sanitation vehicles would significantly strengthen waste management operations and help ensure efficient sanitation services in every street and locality.
The Mayor expressed confidence that with continued cooperation between the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporation and citizens, Delhi would become cleaner, healthier and more beautiful.
Deputy Mayor Highlights Infrastructure Strengthening
Deputy Mayor Dr. Monika Pant said every resident aspires to live in a clean and healthy city.
She noted that despite financial constraints, the Municipal Corporation has continued to provide essential civic services and said strengthening sanitation infrastructure has become the need of the hour.
According to her, the support extended by the Delhi Government will enable the Corporation to deliver better sanitation services and provide residents with a cleaner urban environment.
Standing Committee Chairperson Sets 2027 Target
Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said the functioning of the Municipal Corporation has witnessed positive changes under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
She said that although the Corporation had faced financial challenges in recent years, employees are now receiving salaries on time and sanitation services are being continuously strengthened.
She reiterated the Corporation’s target of eliminating Delhi’s garbage mountains by 2027 and said the Chief Minister has extended full support to the cleanliness campaign.
Satya Sharma also thanked sanitation workers, describing them as the backbone of the Municipal Corporation, and reaffirmed the civic body’s commitment to their welfare.
CSR Support for MCD Schools
During the programme, IDBI Bank, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, donated 21 water coolers to 21 Municipal Corporation schools, further supporting public infrastructure and student welfare.
Citizens Urged to Support Clean Delhi Mission
At the conclusion of the programme, all dignitaries encouraged sanitation workers for their dedicated service and appealed to residents to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and helping build a cleaner, healthier and garbage-free Delhi.
