CBI Secures Extradition of Delhi Police’s Wanted Fugitive Md. Navas Kakkat Ismail from UAE

Date:

New Delhi, May 4: In a significant breakthrough in international law enforcement coordination, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of Md. Navas Kakkat Ismail, a wanted fugitive of Delhi Police, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India.

The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The accused was brought back to India on May 4, 2026, following sustained diplomatic and investigative efforts.

Accused Linked to Organized Crime Syndicate

Md. Navas Kakkat Ismail was wanted in connection with multiple serious offences registered by Delhi Police, including: Extortion, Cheating, Criminal, misappropriation, Forgery and Impersonation.

Participation in organized crime

Investigations revealed that the accused played a key conspirator role in a well-organized racket, where he allegedly impersonated a government official to carry out extortion and other criminal activities in collusion with associates.

INTERPOL Red Notice and Arrest in UAE

At the request of Delhi Police, the CBI facilitated the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice against the accused. Acting on international coordination, UAE authorities were able to geo-locate and arrest the fugitive.

Subsequently, a formal extradition request was submitted to UAE authorities. Following continuous follow-up and legal procedures, the extradition was approved and executed successfully.

Taken into Custody in Delhi

Upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on May 4, 2026, the accused was immediately taken into custody by Delhi Police for further legal proceedings.

CBI’s Role in Global Coordination

The CBI, functioning as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, plays a crucial role in coordinating with global law enforcement agencies through BHARATPOL.

Officials highlighted that over 150 wanted criminals have been brought back to India in recent years through such coordinated efforts via INTERPOL channels, underscoring India’s growing efficiency in tackling transnational crime.

This extradition marks another major step in strengthening international cooperation and ensuring that fugitives cannot evade the law by crossing borders.
