New Delhi, May 4: A tragic incident in North Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area has once again raised serious concerns over public safety and open drainage hazards, after a two-year-old girl died after falling into an uncovered drain near her home.
According to police, information was received regarding the child missing from Mukundpur Part-II. Acting swiftly, a search operation was launched with the help of family members. During the search, the girl was found in a drain located about 15 metres from her residence. She was immediately taken to BJRM Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Police said that no foul play is suspected at this stage, and preliminary findings suggest the child may have accidentally fallen into the open drain while playing outside her house.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about uncovered drains and lack of safety measures in residential areas, which continue to pose a threat, especially to children.
Further inquiry is underway, and police said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem report and any complaint received from the family.
