New Delhi, May 4: With the monsoon approaching, concerns over waterlogging, delayed civic works, and public service gaps have come into focus after MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar conducted an extensive inspection of the Civil Lines zone.
The visit aimed to assess whether Delhi’s infrastructure is prepared to handle seasonal challenges that often disrupt daily life for residents. During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed ongoing road construction works in Timarpur’s BD Estate, stressing that delays directly impact citizens and directed officials to speed up execution without compromising quality.
Highlighting public inconvenience caused by incomplete projects, Khirwar emphasized strict monitoring and timely completion, warning that poor execution would not be tolerated.
Waterlogging Preparedness Under Scrutiny
A key focus of the inspection was Delhi’s recurring monsoon problem—urban flooding. The Commissioner inspected pump houses at Hakikat Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar, reviewing readiness to tackle water accumulation. Officials were directed to ensure that all pumps, drainage systems, and desilting work are completed and fully functional before rains begin.
He stressed that any lapse during monsoon could severely impact traffic, homes, and local businesses, making inter-departmental coordination and preparedness critical.
Healthcare & Basic Services Reviewed
The Commissioner also inspected the Ayush Arogya Centre in Vijay Nagar, reviewing hygiene, infrastructure, and availability of essential health services. Officials were instructed to ensure clean, accessible, and efficient healthcare facilities, especially as monsoon often brings a rise in seasonal illnesses.
The inspection highlights growing pressure on civic agencies to fix infrastructure gaps, prevent flooding, and improve essential services, as residents expect better preparedness and accountability ahead of the rainy season.
