New Delhi: In a stringent crackdown on traffic rule violations, Delhi Police has issued a staggering 2,30,617 challans to e-rickshaw drivers between January 1 and June 15, 2025, highlighting growing concerns over road safety and enforcement in the national capital.
According to official data, 21,478 challans were issued on the spot by traffic police personnel, while an additional 1,81,139 challans were generated through camera-based surveillance systems, including automated traffic monitoring cameras placed at key junctions.
The surge in enforcement underscores the Delhi Police’s increased vigilance against reckless driving, traffic law violations, and public safety hazards associated with unregulated e-rickshaw operations across the city.
A senior police official stated,
“The number reflects a proactive approach towards bringing discipline on roads. Many e-rickshaw operators are found violating lane discipline, overloading passengers, and blocking busy intersections — posing risks to both passengers and other commuters.”
The move also comes amid growing pressure on the city’s traffic infrastructure due to a spike in non-motorized and electric vehicle usage, particularly in congested urban pockets.
