Delhi Government Cancels Leaves Amid Rising Tensions with Pakistan

Date:

NEW DELHI: A state of high alert has been declared in Delhi as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, resulting in the cancellation of all government employees’ leaves. The conflict has led to cross-border shelling in several border areas, including Jammu.

District magistrates in Delhi are currently conducting meetings with their subordinates to assess the city’s health and disaster management readiness in case of an emergency. The police force has been placed on high alert, with increased night vigilance and additional forces deployed in sensitive areas.

The Delhi government’s services department has issued an order prohibiting employees from taking leave until further notice. Officials in various districts are reviewing the health department’s preparedness and disaster management systems, while also identifying any potential gaps in quick response mechanisms.

Security measures have been heightened across the national capital, with additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, stationed at key installations. Special commissioners from all zones are meeting with deputy commissioners from the 15 districts to ensure coordinated efforts.

The increased security measures come in response to recent attempts by the Pakistani military to target various locations in India, which were successfully thwarted. Delhi Police are closely monitoring the law and order situation, with DCPs actively overseeing their respective areas and ensuring readiness to handle any potential threats.

Increased vigilance has been implemented at malls, markets, metro stations, hotels, residential colonies, airports, and other crowded areas, according to an official.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated, “As part of our ongoing anti-terror efforts, a comprehensive security inspection was conducted at the Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station, a crucial public facility. During the visit, CISF personnel were briefed, and a focused coordination meeting took place.” Dhania added, “The station is equipped with 41 operational CCTV cameras that monitor all critical areas. Additionally, 7 male and 2 female CISF personnel are deployed during each shift to ensure strong, round-the-clock security, guaranteeing the safety of commuters.”

Bomb Disposal Squads have conducted anti-sabotage checks at various locations.

DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary stated, “The district’s BDS team has conducted anti-sabotage checks at malls, markets, hotels, and other key locations to enhance public safety across the district. This exercise has bolstered vigilance and readiness against potential threats.”

Police checks in the city, particularly at bordering areas, have been intensified, with all vehicles entering Delhi undergoing thorough inspections.
