New Delhi: A powerful explosion near Lal Quila Metro Station shook the national capital on Sunday evening, leaving eight people dead and several others injured. The blast occurred at Gate Number 1 of the metro station, causing massive damage to nearby vehicles and infrastructure.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion was so intense that eight cars were completely gutted, and the glass panels of the metro station shattered, scattering debris across the area. Panic gripped the surroundings as smoke and flames engulfed the parking zone.



Following the blast, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) immediately sealed Gates 1 and 4 of the Red Fort station as a safety measure, though metro train services continue to operate normally. The Delhi Police Special Cell, along with the fire brigade and forensic experts, reached the site to investigate and control the situation.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after several hours. Police cordoned off the area and dispersed the crowd to prevent further chaos.

Officials confirmed that the explosion was of high intensity, and efforts are underway to determine whether it was a planned attack or an accident. Eyewitnesses described the blast as “terrifying,” saying it also damaged nearby streetlights and shook the neighborhood.
Authorities have launched a multi-agency probe, and forensic teams are examining debris and CCTV footage to trace the source of the explosion.
