New Delhi: Delhi witnessed a tragic road accident early Thursday morning when a car returning from Dehradun rammed into a stationary truck near the Ghazipur Toll Plaza on National Highway-24. The impact was so severe that two women lost their lives on the spot, while three others sustained injuries.
According to officials, the vehicle was carrying five family members at the time of the accident. The collision left the car completely mangled, trapping occupants inside. The Delhi Fire Service received a distress call around 7:05 AM and rushed teams from the Laxmi Nagar Fire Station to the scene to begin rescue operations.
Fire personnel extricated two passengers from the wreckage and shifted them to a nearby hospital. Three others — including two children and the driver — had already been transported to medical facilities with the help of local residents. All injured victims are currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the car crashed into a truck that was parked on the highway near the toll area. Police have launched a detailed probe and are examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over road safety on national highways, particularly regarding heavy vehicles parked along busy stretches. Authorities have urged motorists to remain cautious and adhere strictly to speed regulations to prevent further tragedies.
