New Delhi: A farewell celebration turned into a tragic incident in Mangolpuri, where a 16-year-old school student was allegedly stabbed to death by two minors shortly after leaving his school on Monday afternoon.
According to local accounts, the teenager, identified as Divyanshu, had attended his school farewell and was returning home when the attack took place around 1 pm near the school premises. Emergency services were alerted, but the student succumbed to his injuries, leaving the neighbourhood in shock.
Following the incident, police teams reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The area was cordoned off, and forensic examination was carried out. Authorities have stated that efforts are underway to identify those involved and ascertain the sequence of events leading to the attack.
Residents of Mangolpuri expressed deep concern over what they describe as repeated incidents of violence in the locality. Several locals claimed that crimes involving minors have become increasingly frequent, particularly around school zones, and alleged that routine police patrolling is inadequate.
Parents and residents said the incident has heightened fear among families, especially those with school-going children. Some locals also pointed to the lack of CCTV coverage and poor street lighting in certain stretches, calling for immediate corrective measures.
Police officials, however, maintained that the matter is being taken seriously and assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The school administration has extended condolences to the family and said it is cooperating fully with authorities.
The incident has once again brought attention to concerns around juvenile crime, school-area safety, and urban policing in parts of the national capital.
