New Delhi: A major burglary worth nearly ₹1 crore has sent shockwaves through Delhi’s Madipur area after masked thieves targeted a wedding house and escaped with gold, silver, and cash while the family was away attending a marriage ceremony.
According to the family, the incident occurred around 3:00 am, when two to three unidentified burglars entered the house by breaking a window. CCTV footage shows the suspects with their faces fully covered, executing the theft with precision and calm.

The burglars reportedly broke open a locker inside an almirah, selectively targeting jewellery and cash kept for wedding preparations. Other cupboards inside the house were left untouched, raising suspicion that the thieves had prior knowledge of where valuables were stored.
The stolen items include:
- Approximately 1 kg of gold jewellery
- Nearly 4 kg of silver
- ₹7 lakh in cash
- Original jewellery bills and documents
Family members said they returned home around 7:30 am and were stunned to find the house ransacked and jewellery boxes lying empty. Neighbours revealed that the thieves had latched doors of nearby homes from outside, preventing residents from noticing the crime or intervening.

Despite the presence of CCTV cameras and security arrangements, the theft went unnoticed for nearly 20 minutes, during which the burglars carried out the operation and fled the scene.
Victims have expressed deep distress and anger, alleging that while police visited the spot and recorded statements, no FIR copy had been provided even hours after the complaint. Police officials stated that CCTV footage from the area is being examined and assured action.
Residents have termed the incident one of the largest residential thefts in Delhi in recent months, especially alarming as it targeted a family during a wedding — a time when valuables are traditionally kept at home.
The incident has renewed concerns over rising organised burglaries in Delhi, with locals demanding stronger night patrolling and faster police response.
