Delhi Police Arrest Serial Snatcher for Robbing Tamil Nadu MP R Sudha in Chanakyapuri

Date:

New Delhi: A 24-year-old repeat offender, identified as Sohan Rawat, was arrested by Delhi Police on Wednesday for snatching a 30-gram gold chain from Tamil Nadu Congress MP R Sudha near Tamil Nadu Bhavan in Chanakyapuri.

The incident occurred on Monday morning while the MP was on her routine walk. A bike-borne snatcher approached her, yanked off her gold chain, and fled the spot. The MP sustained minor injuries, according to police.

The Delhi Police launched an immediate investigation, scanning CCTV footage from multiple routes. “The accused was identified and nabbed during a joint operation involving teams from New Delhi, South, and Southwest districts, along with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) and RK Puram police,” said a senior officer.

Rawat has a criminal history spanning 26 previous cases, including theft and snatching. He had recently been released on bail in June after a vehicle theft arrest in Ambedkar Nagar in April this year.

Police have recovered the stolen gold chain, the scooter used in the crime, four stolen mobile phones, and a stolen motorcycle during the raid.

Interestingly, Delhi Police reported a 48% drop in snatching-related PCR calls in the New Delhi district this year, but the high-profile nature of this crime has sparked fresh concerns over street safety and repeat offenders.
