New Delhi: Panic gripped the Shastri Park area after a 35-year-old man, identified by locals as Sameer alias “Kamo Pehelwan”, was shot dead in a late-night attack, marking the second shooting-related killing reported in Delhi within 24 hours, according to local accounts.
Residents said the victim was attacked around 10:30 pm near his home. Eyewitnesses in the neighbourhood claimed four to five rounds were fired, and that multiple assailants were involved before fleeing the spot. Police were informed, they said, but by then the family and locals had already rushed Sameer to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Blood stains and police markings were visible at the scene, residents said, adding that the area has CCTV cameras, including government-installed cameras, which they believe can help identify the attackers. Police teams reportedly remained in the locality for several hours during the night, with residents claiming police conducted checks and maintained a temporary presence.
While some residents suggested the attack could be linked to personal enmity, others insisted the victim had no recent disputes and was known as a calm person in the neighbourhood. Locals also claimed he sustained injuries consistent with an assault, and alleged that sharp-weapon injuries may also have been involved, though official confirmation is awaited.
The killing has triggered renewed concerns over street safety and night patrolling in the area. Residents urged the police and administration to intensify surveillance and ensure regular patrols, saying such incidents were rare in the locality and have left families fearful.
Police are expected to rely on CCTV footage and forensic evidence to trace the suspects, while the community continues to demand swift arrests and stronger preventive policing.
This report is based on local accounts at the spot; police confirmation on motive and the number of assailants is awaited.
