New Delhi: A shocking case of domestic violence leading to murder has been reported from Pul Prahladpur, where a 32-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband inside their residence at DDA Janta Flats.
The victim, identified as Poonam, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Suresh Kumar, following a heated domestic dispute. Police said the couple had married in 2020 and had recently moved to Delhi from Churu in Rajasthan about a month ago.
The couple has two daughters — a four-year-old who currently lives with grandparents in Churu, and a one-and-a-half-year-old child who was present at the residence at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary investigation, the altercation between the couple was reportedly triggered by a disagreement over financial support for the husband’s brother. During the argument, the accused allegedly attacked his wife multiple times using a small LPG cylinder, causing fatal injuries. The woman died on the spot.
Residents in the area alerted police after hearing screams from the flat. Responding swiftly, police reached the spot and took the accused into custody.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are also examining the sequence of events leading to the fatal assault.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over rising cases of domestic violence escalating into fatal crimes within households.
