Bhalswa Landfill Waste Dumped in Delhi Villages? AAP Stages Protest, Blames BJP for Health Crisis

Date:

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday staged a protest at the Bhalswa landfill site, accusing the BJP-led governments of dumping garbage from the city into Delhi’s rural and semi-urban areas, thereby endangering public health and livelihoods.

AAP leaders and workers alleged that waste from the Bhalswa landfill is being transported to areas such as Kirari, Mundka, Burari, Rama Vihar, and surrounding villages, effectively shifting the garbage crisis from one locality to another rather than resolving it.

Addressing the protest, AAP leader Ankush Narang said the BJP had repeatedly promised to eliminate Delhi’s “garbage mountains” but was instead relocating them to villages and agricultural belts. “The garbage mountain has not disappeared — it is only being moved to Delhi’s outskirts, where villagers, children, and daily wage workers are paying the price,” a party leader said.

AAP leaders pointed out that during the previous AAP government’s tenure, significant progress had been made in reducing the Bhalswa landfill through bio-mining and scientific waste processing. However, they alleged that since the BJP took charge of the Municipal Corporation and the Delhi government, garbage dumping has increased across multiple locations.

The party further alleged that unprocessed waste and plastic material were being dumped near residential colonies, contaminating groundwater, worsening air quality, and increasing the risk of serious diseases. Protesters cited incidents of flooding, fires at landfill sites, and toxic gas emissions, claiming that living conditions around these dumping zones have become unbearable.

AAP demanded an immediate halt to the dumping of city waste in rural areas and called for a transparent, scientific, and humane waste-management policy. The party also sought accountability from the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation, alleging a complete failure of governance despite what it described as a “four-engine BJP government” at the Centre, state, and civic levels.

The protest concluded with a warning that AAP would intensify its agitation if dumping in villages continues, asserting that eliminating garbage mountains cannot come at the cost of villagers’ health and lives.
