New Delhi: In a major boost to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) sanitation workforce, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh today handed over regularisation letters to 336 Safai Karamcharis during a formal ceremony at the MCD Headquarters, Dr. SPM Civic Centre.
The move is part of the MCD’s ongoing initiative to offer job security, benefits, and dignity of work to frontline sanitation workers who have been instrumental in maintaining cleanliness, waste management, and hygiene across the capital.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Shri Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Standing Committee Chairperson Ms. Satya Sharma, Leader of House Shri Pravesh Wahi, Councillor Sh. Yogesh Verma, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (DEMS) Shri Anil Kumar, along with other senior MCD officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh acknowledged the dedication of Safai Karamcharis, stating, “Sanitation workers are the backbone of Delhi’s civic hygiene. Their relentless service keeps our city clean and habitable. The BJP-led MCD remains committed to their welfare, job security, and dignity.”
Of the 336 regularised Safai Karamcharis,
- 172 were daily wage workers,
- 28 were appointed on compassionate grounds,
- 136 were previously left out from regularisation.
The Mayor congratulated the newly regularised employees and reiterated that MCD will continue prioritising the rights, recognition, and welfare of sanitation staff.
The event concluded with a renewed resolve from the MCD leadership to uphold sanitation standards, support the safai karamchari community, and push forward its mission for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Delhi.
