New Delhi, June 27: The Delhi Congress has stepped up preparations for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, with Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav directing party leaders to submit three prospective candidates from every municipal ward within the next 15 days.
Yadav chaired a meeting of the party’s Lok Sabha in-charges, district in-charges and Assembly observers at the DPCC office on Saturday to review the organisational structure and strengthen the party at the grassroots level ahead of the civic polls.
As part of the exercise, each ward has been asked to recommend three names—one woman candidate, one Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate, and one general category candidate—for consideration in the MCD elections.
The meeting focused on strengthening the organisation at the booth level and ensuring that the Congress party’s ideology and programmes reach grassroots workers across Delhi.
Yadav instructed district in-charges to improve coordination with booth-level workers and ensure the participation of district and block Congress Committee office-bearers in monthly organisational meetings.
He also directed district presidents, block presidents, Mandalam presidents and sector in-charges to work collectively to strengthen the Congress organisation in every booth across all municipal wards.
The Delhi Congress chief distributed the lists of executive committee members, Mandalam presidents, sector in-charges and BLA-2 members from all 14 district units to Lok Sabha in-charges, district leaders and Assembly observers to facilitate outreach to active Congress workers in all 70 Assembly constituencies.
Besides Devender Yadav, the meeting was attended by General Secretary Anil Bhardwaj, former Delhi Minister Dr. Narender Nath, Administration In-charge Jatin Sharma, DPCC Vice Presidents C.P. Mittal and Tasvir Solanki, among other party leaders.
Yadav also asked the observers to personally reach out to Congress workers and supporters who have become inactive in their respective areas.
He said experienced workers remain an important part of the organisation and should be encouraged to actively reconnect with the party to strengthen the Congress ahead of the upcoming civic elections.
