Delhi Police Launches Emblems for Finger Print Bureau and Bomb Disposal Squad, Highlighting Forensic and Security Strength

Date:

New Delhi: In a symbolic move to acknowledge the vital role of its specialised crime and security units, the Delhi Police on Thursday unveiled official emblems for its Finger Print Bureau (FPB) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). The unveiling ceremony was held at Police Headquarters and led by Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, in the presence of senior officials.

The insignias will now be part of the FPB and BDS uniforms, official documents, and equipment, marking their identity and reinforcing their crucial role in crime investigation and public safety across the capital.

“The emblems symbolise recognition of their dedicated services. Both FPB and BDS have proved to be essential pillars of our crime-fighting framework,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Devesh Chandra Srivastva.

Finger Print Bureau: Advanced Forensic Wing

The FPB, a key forensic unit under the Crime Branch since 1983, assists in criminal investigations by analysing fingerprints from crime scenes. It currently maintains a database of over five lakh fingerprints related to criminals operating in Delhi.

The bureau employs advanced technologies such as the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFPIS), National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), and the Crime Record Information System (CRIS) to identify suspects through fingerprint matching.

Since the national rollout of NAFIS in 2022 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the FPB has played a crucial role in tracking and aiding the arrest of numerous criminals based on fingerprint evidence.

Bomb Disposal Squad: Guardians of Urban Safety

Formed in 2002, the BDS plays a frontline role in Delhi’s urban security landscape. The unit is trained to detect, defuse, and neutralise explosive devices, and works closely with the Bomb Detection Team (BDT).

BDS teams are strategically stationed across the city to respond swiftly to threats at public places such as markets, shopping malls, and VVIP event venues. They operate with high-tech tools including vapour detectors, metal detectors, and sniffer dogs from the Dog Squad.

The squad regularly performs anti-sabotage checks and takes part in joint drills with elite agencies such as the NSG, BSF, CRPF, and Delhi Police Academy to remain updated on counter-IED protocols.

With the rollout of these emblems, Delhi Police aims to highlight the professionalism and technical expertise of these two critical units, while boosting morale and visibility of their work among citizens.
