Delhi to Get 13 Districts Instead of 11; Government Plans Reorganisation to Match MCD Zones

Date:

New Delhi: In a major administrative reshuffle, Delhi is set to have 13 districts instead of the existing 11, according to sources. The government has decided to create two new districts to streamline governance and resolve boundary-related issues between different MCD zones.

Why the Change?

Currently, several districts in Delhi cover areas where two different MCD zones overlap, creating confusion in development works, coordination, and jurisdiction. To address this problem, the government has decided that MCD zone boundaries will now be converted into district boundaries.

Under the new system, the existing boundaries of MCD zones will form the new district boundaries, ensuring better alignment between civic and administrative jurisdictions.

Impact of the Reorganisation

  • Delhi will move from 11 districts to 13 districts.
  • Each district will now correspond directly with an MCD zone, removing the overlap and disputes.
  • The reorganisation is expected to improve governance, development works, and civic coordination across the capital.

Though an official notification is awaited, the move is being seen as a landmark step towards improving administrative efficiency in Delhi.
