Three Arrested in Delhi for Fatal Mobile Robbery Near Badarpur Bus Stand; CCTV, Faulty Scooter Help Crack Case

Date:

New Delhi: In a swift breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested three men — including a hotel employee — for allegedly murdering a 25-year-old man who resisted a mobile phone snatching attempt near Badarpur Bus Stand in southeast Delhi.

The accused have been identified as Mohsin alias Noor (20), an employee at a Faridabad hotel, Deepak Suryavanshi (18), and Himanshu (21) — both residents of Molarband village in Delhi. The victim, Makbul Akaram, originally from Bihar’s West Champaran district, was employed in the capital.

According to Additional DCP (Southeast) Aishwarya Sharma, police received information at 5:51 am on July 26 about a man lying unconscious with a stab wound near the Badarpur Bus Stand. Upon arrival, they found the victim dead and his mobile phone missing — pointing towards robbery as the motive.

With no identification documents or eyewitnesses, the police launched a technical investigation, registering a case under Section 103(1) (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A major breakthrough came after investigators scanned over 1,000 CCTV feeds across Delhi and Faridabad. A scooter, seen taking a suspicious route near the scene, turned out to be the key clue.

CCTV footage from Arpan Vihar captured clear images of the suspects, and the scooter’s defective headlight played a crucial role in tracing the vehicle and identifying the suspects.

Mohsin was tracked down at a hotel in Faridabad’s Basantpur area. Interrogation led to the arrest of his associates, Deepak and Himanshu. Police revealed that the trio had consumed drugs and planned the robbery in advance. Mohsin drove the scooter, while Deepak and Himanshu approached the victim. On Deepak’s instruction, Himanshu stabbed Makbul twice after snatching his mobile phone.

The three had been staying together at the hotel for the past few days, reportedly consuming narcotics and plotting the crime. Mohsin had been working there for eight months and developed a friendship with the other two suspects.

Police have recovered the victim’s stolen phone, the murder weapon (knife), and the scooter used in the attack.

Of the trio, Himanshu has six prior criminal cases related to snatching and theft, while Mohsin and Deepak had no previous police records, officials said.

Investigation is ongoing to verify possible involvement in other crimes and establish the full extent of the suspects’ criminal network.
