New CCTV Footage Reveals Panic Moments After Lal Qila Blast; Umar Identified as Key Suspect in Car Explosion

Date:

New Delhi: A new CCTV footage has surfaced from the Old Lajpat Rai Market, located barely 200 metres from Delhi’s Red Fort (Lal Qila), revealing the terrifying moments following Monday evening’s car blast. The visuals show chaos breaking out as the explosion’s shockwave caused the surveillance camera itself to shake. Panic-stricken people can be seen running for cover, highlighting the intensity of the blast that has now claimed 12 lives, including that of suspect Umar.

According to investigation agencies, Umar was inside the car that exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station. Officials suspect the blast may have been a fidayeen (suicide) attack. Two of Umar’s alleged associates, arrested earlier from Faridabad, are being interrogated. Preliminary reports suggest Umar may have acted in panic following the arrests.

The footage, recorded roughly 250 metres from the blast site, shows the shockwave reaching deep into the market area, shaking the camera and causing widespread chaos. The explosion occurred near Subhash Red Light, a junction often crowded even at night. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames engulf the vehicle moments before a loud detonation.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell are conducting a meticulous probe, collecting evidence from the blast site. Sources said the Prime Minister has instructed agencies to ensure that those behind the attack are not spared.

Meanwhile, investigators have taken Umar’s relatives, including Tariq and Aamir, into custody for questioning. The car’s movement—from Faridabad to Gurugram, then to Pulwama, and back to Delhi—is being closely traced as part of the investigation. Security around the Red Fort has been tightened, and the monument will remain closed to visitors until November 13.

Officials say the new CCTV footage adds another dimension to the ongoing probe, raising crucial questions about the scale of planning behind the blast and the potential network involved.
