New Delhi: A 40-year-old e-rickshaw driver lost his life after a 16-year-old boy, driving a private car without a valid licence, allegedly rammed into his vehicle in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka area, police said on Saturday.
The fatal road accident occurred around 11:15 am on Friday on the Dwarka Nala Road, when the teen driver, accompanied by his younger sister, lost control of the vehicle. The speeding car overturned and crashed into an oncoming e-rickshaw, critically injuring the driver, a resident of Najafgarh.
“The victim suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. He was unfit to give any statement prior to his death,” a senior police official confirmed.
Initial investigations indicate that the minor was driving at high speed and took the vehicle, registered in his father’s name, without permission. The car overturned due to the impact, while the e-rickshaw was flung across the road. A forensic team examined the accident scene, and both vehicles were seized for further investigation.
The police have filed an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (act endangering life), and 106 (causing death by negligence).
“Since the boy is a minor, we are initiating legal proceedings against the father for allowing the child access to the car,” the officer added.
