New Delhi: In a major pre-Diwali crackdown, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has seized 1,645 kg of banned firecrackers during coordinated raids across Dwarka, Rohini, Uttam Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Mukundpur and Shahdara. The drive, carried out under the supervision of senior officials, led to the arrest of six accused persons involved in the storage and sale of prohibited fireworks.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Pankaj Kumar, the raids were conducted in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives to curb air pollution and ensure public safety. “Delhi Police remains fully committed to protecting the environment and public health. Our teams are maintaining a zero-tolerance approach against illegal firecrackers,” he said.
The operation yielded massive seizures—916 kg in Dwarka and Rohini, 412 kg in Shastri Nagar, 311 kg in Mukundpur, and 106 kg in Shahdara. A pickup truck used to transport the banned materials was also impounded.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused sourced the firecrackers from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for resale in Delhi during the festive season at inflated prices. The illegal stock included hazardous items such as sky shots, rockets, chakris, anars and phooljhadis.
Cases under Sections 223(B)/288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 9(B) of the Explosives Act have been registered.
The Delhi Police said its anti-firecracker drive would continue across the city in the coming weeks to ensure full enforcement of the ban and to safeguard citizens from pollution-related health hazards.
