MCD Orders Insecticide Spraying, Extra Staff Deployment and Awareness Drives in Yamuna Flood Relief Camps

Date:

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued directions to the Public Health Department to carry out insecticide spraying in flood-affected areas and relief camps near the Yamuna to curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

According to Satya Sharma, Chairperson of the Standing Committee, the MCD is committed to protecting citizens from outbreaks of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya in the aftermath of flooding. She instructed that additional Domestic Breeding Checker (DBC) employees be deployed in the relief camps and that a special DBC team be formed to ensure systematic and intensive spraying. Zonal officers will supervise the teams to guarantee timely coverage of every camp.

The MCD also directed officials to distribute chlorine bottles and ORS packets among residents of relief camps, ensuring safe drinking water and preventing waterborne diseases.

To strengthen preventive measures, Sharma called for extensive public awareness campaigns in collaboration with the Delhi Government. As part of this drive, posters, stickers, banners, and loudspeaker announcements (munadi) will be used to spread health messages in affected areas.

“The MCD’s objective is to provide a safe and healthy environment for citizens living in flood-hit zones,” Sharma emphasized, while instructing officials to conduct regular inspections of relief camps and take immediate corrective action whenever required.
