New Delhi: The weather in Delhi-NCR witnessed a noticeable shift on Sunday morning as light rain and overcast skies brought much-needed relief from rising temperatures. Residents across Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad woke up to drizzle and cool winds, offering a temporary break from the early onset of summer heat, though the morning commute saw slightly slower traffic due to wet roads.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cloudy conditions are expected to persist through the day on March 23, with chances of light rain accompanied by thunder in the afternoon. North-westerly winds blowing at speeds of 10–15 kmph are likely to keep humidity in check, making the weather relatively comfortable. However, intermittent sunshine breaking through the clouds may bring brief spells of warmth during the day, while evenings are expected to turn pleasant again.
Temperature readings indicate that the maximum temperature settled around 29.5°C, while the minimum dropped to 15.6°C, with some areas recording close to 30°C. Over the next two days—March 24 and 25—cloudy skies are likely to continue, with daytime temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. From March 26 onwards, the weather is expected to clear, and temperatures may climb up to 34°C, signalling a return of warmer conditions.
In contrast, hill regions are witnessing extreme weather activity. Kedarnath in Uttarakhand has received heavy snowfall, with 3–4 feet of snow covering the area. Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are also under the influence of an active western disturbance, which may bring continued snowfall and rain until March 25. Interestingly, parts of Kashmir plains, including Srinagar, are experiencing clear skies with temperatures crossing 20°C.
Across the northern plains, weather patterns are also evolving. In Uttar Pradesh, recent spells of rain and gusty winds are expected to subside, with temperatures likely to rise sharply. Meteorologists predict a 7–10°C increase in temperature across regions including Lucknow within the next week. Kanpur recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 13.7°C.
Meanwhile, eastern India is also on alert. States such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal may witness rainfall and hailstorms between March 24 and 28. In higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, including Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, there is a risk of avalanches, prompting advisories for tourists to remain cautious.
Overall, the next 48 hours are expected to bring dynamic weather conditions across North India—offering brief relief through rain, followed by a likely return of rising temperatures.
