Delhi Municipal Corporation Meeting Disrupted by BJP Councilors, Mayor’s Desk Clambered

Date:

NEW DELHI: The meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) once again descended into chaos as BJP councilors disrupted proceedings. The meeting, scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, was delayed by almost 35 minutes due to the late arrival of the Mayor, prompting criticism from opposition leader Raja Iqbal Singh.

Tensions escalated as BJP councilors clashed with Aam Aadmi Party members, resulting in a physical altercation. BJP councilors even went as far as climbing onto the Mayor’s desk, tearing up the agenda copy, and attempting to damage the Mayor’s microphone. Despite Mayor Mahesh Kumar’s appeals for calm, the situation spiraled out of control, leading to the indefinite adjournment of the meeting.

Opposition leader Raja Iqbal Singh accused the Aam Aadmi Party of disregarding proper parliamentary procedures and disrespecting the Mayor by failing to stand when he entered the hall. Singh emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party’s loss of majority in the corporation means that any agenda passed without proper discussion would be considered illegal. He announced plans to address this issue by writing a letter to the Commissioner.

Regarding the opposition’s uproar, leader Mukesh Goyal asserts that the BJP only enters the house to sow discord, showing no regard for the welfare of the people of Delhi. Raja Iqbal Singh further claims that the Aam Aadmi Party is governing the municipality in an unconstitutional manner. Despite their pledge to eradicate the towering garbage heaps in Delhi, the promised cleanup remains unfulfilled to this day.
