One Dead After Three-Storey Building Collapses in Delhi’s Azad Market; Shops Reduced to Rubble

New Delhi: A 46-year-old man was killed after a three-storey commercial building collapsed in Delhi’s congested Azad Market area in the early hours of Friday, officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Manoj Sharma, whose body was recovered from beneath the debris. A distress call was received at 1:56 AM, prompting an immediate emergency response by fire and rescue teams.

According to DFS officials, the structure housed multiple shops and is believed to have caved in suddenly, trapping occupants under the rubble. Rescue operations continued through the early morning hours to ensure no one else remained trapped.

While the exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, civic agencies are expected to launch a structural safety audit in the area to prevent future incidents. Further investigation is underway.
