Chaos Erupts in MCD House as AAP Alleges Dalit Bias, Demands Regularisation of 12,000 Employees; Proceedings Adjourned

Date:

New Delhi:The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House witnessed chaotic scenes on Thursday as members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised slogans and protested against the BJP-led administration, demanding the regularisation of 12,000 civic employees. The uproar forced the adjournment of proceedings shortly after they began.

The commotion began immediately after the entry of Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, with AAP councillors waving posters and chanting slogans accusing the BJP of being “anti-Dalit.” The House descended into disorder as opposition members called out the ruling party’s alleged apathy towards Dalit employees and civic workers.

Opposition councillors, particularly from AAP, displayed placards reading “BJP Dalit Virodhi Hai” (BJP is anti-Dalit), disrupting the session and prompting the Mayor to suspend the day’s proceedings.

In response to the disruption, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh remarked, “Our goal is to allow every councillor — whether from the ruling party, opposition, or independents — to speak freely in the interest of the people, who are like God to us. But unfortunately, there are some mischief-makers who want to derail the House.”

Singh further stated that parties themselves aren’t to blame, but some individuals within them carry “destructive mindsets” and resist positive administrative changes due to personal agendas. “Why did only AAP protest and not the Congress or Indraprastha Vikas Morcha? It raises questions,” he added.

Despite repeated calls for order, the protests continued, compelling the Mayor to adjourn the House until further notice. The demand for regularising thousands of contractual employees and the aggressive tone of the protest indicate escalating tensions between the BJP and AAP within the civic body.
