New Delhi, June 1: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday launched a two-day training programme for its senior engineering officers, with a strong focus on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to improve urban infrastructure planning, project execution and public service delivery.

The refresher course and capacity-building programme is being organised by the MCD’s Planning Department in collaboration with the National CPWD Academy, Ghaziabad. More than 100 engineers, including Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers from various MCD zones and headquarters, are participating in the programme.

MCD Launches Training Programme for Senior Engineers, Focuses on AI-Driven Infrastructure Development

MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar inaugurated the training programme and highlighted the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence and technology-driven governance in modern urban administration.

Addressing the participants, Khirwar said that engineers and public officials must continuously upgrade their knowledge and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies to meet the challenges of urban development.

“We are living in an era defined by technological advancements and Artificial Intelligence. Continuous learning and updating technical skills have become essential for professionals responsible for planning and executing public infrastructure projects,” he said.

The Commissioner stressed that AI-driven tools and modern engineering practices have the potential to significantly improve decision-making, project monitoring, contract management, quality assurance and infrastructure maintenance.

He expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical insights shared by experienced faculty members during the training programme would help officers enhance their professional capabilities and deliver better civic infrastructure across Delhi.

According to Khirwar, adopting innovative technologies and strengthening technical expertise within the engineering workforce will play a key role in improving the quality of municipal services and public infrastructure in the national capital.

Additional Commissioner (Engineering) L.D. Meghwal, Engineer-in-Chief P.C. Meena, Planning Advisor Manish Rastogi and Additional Director General (Training and Research) Manoj Kumar were among the senior officials present during the inaugural session.

The training programme is designed to strengthen the technical knowledge, capacity and professional competencies of civil and electrical engineers working in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Officials said the programme would help engineers make better-informed decisions and improve the management of public projects.

Key topics covered during the sessions include General Conditions of Contract (GCC), contract management, quality assurance mechanisms, CPWD manuals, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects and the application of Artificial Intelligence in civil engineering.

Senior engineers from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) are also participating in the programme and sharing their expertise on infrastructure planning, project execution and emerging engineering technologies.

MCD officials said the initiative reflects the corporation’s commitment to modernising urban governance and equipping its engineering workforce with the skills required to address the growing infrastructure demands of a rapidly expanding city.

Participants from different zones actively engaged in discussions during the sessions and sought clarifications on contract administration, engineering standards and project implementation frameworks.

The corporation expects the training programme to contribute to more efficient project execution, improved service delivery and greater adoption of technology-led solutions in Delhi’s civic infrastructure sector.
